Business Administration – Intermediate and Advanced

Administrators need a broad range of skills to work efficiently and to help increase business productivity. Skills shortages identified by organisations include a lack of office and administration skills, customer-handling skills, technical and practical skills, oral communication skills and IT skills, all of which are covered within the Business Administration Apprenticeship framework. Here are some examples:

• Producing business documents
• Contributing to the organisation of events
• Developing and delivering presentations
• Providing reception services
• Using and maintaining office equipment
• Providing administrative support for meetings
• Using a variety of software packages
• Analysing and presenting business documents
• Managing projects

Business Administration – Intermediate

Due to the varied nature of business administration there are many job roles that apply, these will include job roles like; administrators, office juniors, receptionists/medical receptionists, junior legal secretaries or junior medical secretaries.

The intermediate Level Business Administration Apprenticeship covers:

• Communication in a business environment
• Business document production and information management
• Managing personal performance and development
• Handling mail and email
• Providing reception services
• Administrative support for meetings, produce minutes
• Managing diary systems and organise travel or accommodation
• Meeting and welcoming visitors in a business environment
• Using a telephone and voicemail system
• Maintaining and issuing stationery and supplies
• Using and maintain office equipment
• Spreadsheet, data management, presentation, word processing and website software
• Delivering customer service and developing customer relationships

Business Administration – Advanced Apprenticeship

At the advanced apprenticeship level, administration roles will include; administration executives/officers, administration team leaders, personal assistants and secretaries, including legal or medical secretaries.

The Advanced Level 2 Business Administration covers:

• Contributing to the improvement of business performance
• Negotiating in a business environment
• Managing an office facility
• Analysing and presenting business data
• Administering the recruitment and selection process
• Buddying a colleague to develop their skills
• Resolving administrative problems and customer complaints
• Preparing specifications for contracts
• Managing team and individual performance and development in the workplace
• Implementing and maintain business continuity plans and processes
• Procuring products and/or services
• Implementing change
• Chairing and leading meetings
• Managing a budget, project and business risks
• Developing and maintain professional networks
• Developing and implement an operational plan and encourage innovation
• Recruitment, selection and induction practice


How long will the Apprenticeship Framework take to complete?

The level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration will be completed over a minimum of 12 months and 1 day. The level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration will be completed over a minimum of 15 months and 1 day, both will include:

• A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
• Employee Rights and Responsibilities
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
• Functional Skills in Maths and English and ICT

Assessment of the apprenticeship will take place in the workplace, however there will be some classroom and ‘off the job’ training.

This Apprenticeship is fully funded (dependent on eligibility)
